St. Simon’s Sea Island Golf Club is very proud today as members and residents, Chris Kirk and Zach Johnson are co-holders of the first round lead in the Sony Open. Both fired -7 under par 63’s.

Zach has battled the flu but when he arrived in Hawaii he had a “take no prisoners” attitude and it showed as he and his Hall of Fame caddy Damon Green fired a bogey free round with 7 birdies and 11 pars.

He wants a big year. I think a couple more wins and he will be a lock for the Hall of Fame!

Chris Kirk also fired a perfect round with all birdies no pars. Sporting a new beard I think Chris is really looking forward to 2018 and what is in store for him.

He is one of the most fluid and solid players we have out there and it is going to be a fun year to watch this Georgia Bulldog sink his teeth into some of these guys!

Actually Zach and Chris are both Bulldogs. Chris a Georgia Bulldog and pretty upset over their Championship loss to Alabama Monday night.

Zach a Drake Bulldog who really didn’t care much about the game as he was battling the nasty flu bug.

How cool is it to see Vaughn Taylor off to such a great start with a 6 under par 64 and tied at only one stroke back?

Vaughn, a native of Augusta Georgia, would give anything to get back to the Masters. He has done a better job controlling his temper and if he can keep it going there just might be a Masters invite for him next year.

A real favorite of mine is Brian Harman, also from Sea Island Georgia.

Brian is really ready to step up his game and have a couple wins this year.

Who knows, maybe a Major, is in his 2018 goals? I think he is solid enough and has the where with all to get a Major Championship under his belt.

I’ve watched Brian since he was an amateur and he has always shown poise and a super golf game. Potty mouth yes but we all know who has the biggest potty mouth….TIGER!

Speaking of Tiger.

It will be an interesting return for him when he shows up at the Farmers Insurance Open the end of January.

He may be rusty but starting back where he grew up playing golf is going to make a big difference.

I’m looking for a top ten for him. This will be some of the most pressure he will ever have on him.

We all know that there is no golfer who has performed better under pressure. That’s why I’m going out on a limb and predicting top 10.

I’ve given it a lot of thought these last couple of months and I am going to say that we will see him in the winners circle this year.

Not going to say Major but some way some how he is going to make it happen. I just hope it’s not on a Putt Putt course with his kids LOL LOL LOL .
