Max Scherzer continues to amaze me as a pitcher. The Tigers blew away the Tampa Bay Rays last night, by a score of 8-1. Scherzer started for the Tigers and he pitched 8 innings of solid baseball. He gave up just 2 hits and 1 run, while striking out 7 and walking only one batter.
This was a dominate performance from Scherzer, the Tampa Bay Rays have a good offense, but Scherzer was simply too much for them. Meanwhile the Tigers offense had their way with the Tampa Bay pitchers.
The Tigers offense knocked Rays pitcher Erik Bedard out of the game, after just 2 innings of work. The Tigers roughed up Bedard quite a bit. It was almost like he never knew what hit him. The entire Detroit Tigers batting order, that’s what hit him.
Detroit got 8 hits and scored 6 runs in the 2 innings Bedard worked. Scherzer could put his motion in cruise control with a lead like that, and that’s exactly what he did. Detroit won this game before it really ever started. After the 2nd inning, the Tigers knew they had this one in the win column, and that’s the kind of confidence you can have when Max Scherzer is pitching for your team.
The Tigers have a 4 game win streak going, they are 5 games ahead of the Royals and 8 games ahead of the Indians, in the A.L. Central division. Not too bad for a half of season’s work. If the Tigers can continue to play this way, in the 2nd half, they will be hard to beat.
