William McGirt was a legend on the Web.com tour, and now he is sharing the lead at the Players Championship. Well know as a guy who kept on trying but took forever to make it to the PGA Tour.

Talk to him and you will find a soft-spoken gentleman who is as nice a guy as you will ever meet.

Don’t mess with him if something isn’t right though. Just ask the PGA Tour, they told him he could not play in the Sanderson Farms tourney last year because he qualified for a HSBC tournament in China.

He told them no, he wanted to play the Sanderson Farms, as they have brought thousands of jobs to the area he is from.

They said you can not play in it. Well, William McGirt did not go to China for a week, he flew to the Sanderson Farms tourney and played in a pro-am with his buddies.

He is truly a man of his word.

Well, after all that, I have to brag about William because he is tied for the first round lead at the Players Championship.

Pete Dye designed one heck of a course when he designed the TPC Stadium course so many years go.

William won Jack Nicklaus’s Memorial tournament last year in fine fashion and is showing everyone he is the real deal!

William did a first for him on the tour as he eagled both par 5’s on the back nine. He has never had 2 eagles in the same round on the PGA Tour.

Mackenzie Hughes is no slouch either. He won a Monday playoff on St. Simons Island at the RSM Classic on the Sea Island Ocean course.

This young man from Canada is a SOLID player. He had what I always call a perfect round today. NO BOGEYS!! 5 birdies and 13 pars….WOW!!

I really can’t go any further in this article without mentioning that Sergio Garcia aced #17 today! It was the coolest thing to watch, nothing like a ball going past the hole and being drawn back in.

It was the coolest and got him back in the tournament.

He just did not have it in the beginning but it’s coming back and he is playing in the morning which is great because he can relax in the afternoon and get ready for moving day–Saturday.

Gosh the excitement is building each hour of each day. Tomorrow will be amazing but look out for Saturday and Sunday it is going to be so much fun! Hang onto your seats!
