The Detroit Lions played one heck of a god football game last night. You could say they made a statement. They beat the New England Patriots 40-9. After we saw them get beat in Cleveland a week earlier, we didn’t think this Lions team was capable of playing this kind of football.

The Lions performed well on both sides of the ball in this game. They had solid performances from both Matthew Stafford and Kellen Moore. Both quarterbacks looked good. Stafford threw for 166 yards and one touchdown and Moore threw for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Lions defense was able to get to New England quarterbacks only twice but they continued to apply pressure to keep New England guessing. Brady only completed 16 of his 24 passes and threw one interception. That’s a far cry from his nearly perfect performance a week earlier.

The Lions running game looked well balanced too. If Detroit is capable of playing this kind of football once the regular season starts, they could turn things around in the 2013 season. The Lions need to continue to dominate on the field the way they did last night.

If they can do that, they could be play-off contenders. It is a long season and we know this was only preseason, but you have to admit we didn’t think this Lions team was capable of playing this kind of dominating football.
