Francisco Liriano didn’t help the Chicago White Sox get any separation between themselves and the Detroit Tigers who are now tied for the top spot in the American League Central at 82-72. Liriano had a terrible outing against the last place Cleveland Indians, he gave up 7 hits and 4 runs to a team that has been suffering at the plate. Liriano only lasted 3-2/3’s innings as he gave up the 4 runs. The damage was already done by then and the White Sox were unable to battle back against the Indians who are playing spoiler at this point in the season.
The bad news for the White Sox is they have to face the Indians one more time tonight, the Tigers have won their last two games and are making a charge to take the top spot away from the White Sox. Chicago just couldn’t get it done against the Indians starter Corey Kluber who pitched a great game before handing it over to the Indians Bull pen. Vinnie Pestano came in and did what he has been doing all season, and then Chris Perez the Indians closer held onto the 1 run lead to shut down the White Sox hope of winning for his 37 save of the season.
