44-year-old Ernie Els, made it look anything but easy this weekend, at the World Match Play. Somehow Els was able to turn back the hands of father time a bit to make it into the semi-final round. Els played some good golf, but is it the kind of play that will make him a contender, at this year majors?

Els would like nothing better than to get a win at this years Masters in Augusta Georgia. The 4-time major champions has come so close, but was never able to card the victory there. at age 44, we have to wonder how many more years Els can be competitive in the majors.

Of course we cannot forget about the great win at Augusta Jack carded at age 46. Then there was Mickelson last season showing the world the 40 somethings can still get it done. But can Els somehow find a way to get the win that he wants the most?

We are going to have to wait to see what happens come April. You could tell this weekend, with the way Ernie played, the fire is still burning within.

I can remember the disappointment on the face of Els, when he came in second for the second time in 2004.  It was like he saw it slip away and he knew, how close he was to a win there. Perhaps Ernie can re-kindle the fire one more time and surprise the world with a Masters win this year.

There are millions of people around the world who would like nothing more. Why not? After all, he is the Big Easy. And Augusta looks like a place where the Big Easy is a way of life.
