It didn’t take very long for Robert Griffin III to show the NFL he has the right stuff to play in the N.F.L.. Griffin sent those Saints marching home empty this afternoon as he and his Redskins beat the team in New Orleans 40-32 on opening day on the Saints home field, not the easiest of tasked, yet Griffin accomplished it in his first regular season N.F.L. game. RGIII threw for 320 yards completing 19 of 26 passes and 2 touchdowns.

The Redskins certainly got what they paid for today with the second pick in this years N.F.L. draft. Many thought the cost to get RGIII may have been to high when the Redskins traded away a ton to get him, those folks have to be second guessing themselves after the aerial display RGIII furnished for the Redskins today. RGIII was also the Redskins second leading rusher today behind Alfred Morris who ran for 96 yards on 28 carries. RGIII rushed for 42 yards on 10 carries.

RGIII had some help today from what already looks like his favorite receiver Pierre Garcon who caught 4 passes for 109 yards and one of RGIII’s touchdowns. The other touchdown pass came from  an RGIII completion to Aldrick Robinson. The Washington Redskins have to be pleased with the performance RGIII had today. He finished the day with a quarterback rating of 139.9. How good is that for a N.F.L. rookie on opening day?

Griffin looked like a seasoned vet all game long playing in perhaps the most hostile environment in the NFL. He threw for 320 yards and no interceptions using superb judgment and he also made judicious use of his running ability gaining another 40 yards on the ground. Quite a contrast to what the Redskins got out of Donovan McNabb…

On the other hand the coronation ceremony anointing Andrew Luck as the next Bert Jones or (fill-in-the-blank) great quarterback from the past will have to wait another week. Even though his final stats weren’t that bad, Luck made several “rookie” mistakes that I don’t think he’ll repeat as the season progresses…

RGIII is a class act. I attended the game on Sunday and observed RGIII’s character from the front row. He handled himself in a professional manor throughout the game. Following the post game on-field interview, he came to myself and a few other fans and shook (not slapped)my hand. What a #1 Class Act!
