Foursome matches were the game of choice the first day of the President’s Cup!

In case you don’t recall what foursome matches are here ya go, simply an alternate shot event. Not too sure why they don’t call it alternate shot.

Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas were the first United States players to go off.

They played Hideki Matsuyama and Charl Schwartzl. It was a fairly easy match for the Americans as they won 6&4.

Simply put that means they were 6 holes up with only 4 holes to play. Nice solid golf by our Americans!
The next group off was Dustin Johnson & Matt Kuchar for the Americans and Adam Scott & Jhonny Vegas for the International team.

The US players had a slightly tough time with the Internationals. The US team did end up winning the match 1 up so it came right down to the last hole.

A bit of a nail biter for us watching.

Match 3 for USA was Jordan Spieth & Patrick Reed. This tough duo fought Si Woo Kim and Emiliano Grillo.

The US team prevailed and won 5 &4. Nice watching Reed and Spieth playing together. They are a force to be reckoned with.

Match #4 was US players Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger vs. Louis Oosthuizen & Branden Grace.

The International team is one of the greatest of all time as they went undefeated 2 years ago and started off this year the same way.

Oosthuizen & Grace won 3&1 and got the only full point for the International team.

Kevin Kisner & Phil Mickelson were put against Jason Day and Marc Leishman. This was the final match and was #5 today.

It came right down to the 18th hole with Phil Mickelson missing a 7 1/2 foot putt and halved the match.

So after day 1 the USA leads the Europeans 3 1/2 to 1 1/2. Lots of golf left!!
