Jim Leyland is seeing his Detroit Tigers pitching staff, getting killed by the Oakland A’s. The Tigers started Doug Fister who gave up 13 hits and 7 runs in 5 innings. You think that is bad, just wait. Leyland put in Jose Alvarez who must have thought he could top the performance of Fister.
Alvarez only pitched for 2-1/3 and he gave up 5 hits and 5 runs. The Detroit Tigers threw their best at the A’s on Tuesday night and the A’s took care of Verlander too. The Tigers have been beaten by the A’s that past two nights but the beating they took last night takes the cake.
The A’s put 14 runs on the board against one of the best pitching staffs in all of baseball. That was before they got to the series against the A’s. Now we aren’t so sure these guys are the same guys Leyland thought he had in his rotation.
He needs to issue an amber alert to find out where his staff went. The A’s are a good ball club and they are fighting for a play-off spot, but the Tigers are handing it to them. It isn’t the time for the Detroit Tigers pitching staff to fall apart.
They are leading the way in the A.L. Central and they take on the second place team this weekend. If their starters continue to struggle like this, it could be an interesting month of September….
