The feud between Sergio Garcia and Tiger Woods continues to escalate. Now Garcia could have set himself up for some failures. Remember not so many years ago when golfer Fuzzy Zoeller made what he considered a joke before the Masters dinner. It ended up costing Zoeller big money in the endorsements he lost.
Garcia has already come out and offered an apology to Woods, or anyone else his comment might have hurt. Here is what Sergio has said; “I apologize for any offense that may have been caused by my comment on stage during The European Tour Players’ Awards dinner. I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner.”
Meanwhile Tiger Woods has taken to twitter to respond to the remarks being aimed at him. Tiger sent these tweets;
The comment that was made wasn’t silly. It was wrong, hurtful and clearly inappropriate…
I’m confident that there is real regret that the remark was made.
The Players ended nearly two weeks ago and it’s long past time to move on and talk about golf.
One thing is certain, there is going to be more bad blood between these two rivals. Woods and Garcia never did see eye to eye. This is only going to make maters worse. If the PGA doesn’t step in and talk to these players it is going to be interesting to see what would happen if the two men ever end up in the same group again.
We will have to wait and see if the Sergio, fried chicken comments end up costing Garcia the way the raciest joke cost another tour player big, some years ago.
