Tiger Woods is coming off an elbow injury that saw him miss a tournament that benefits his own foundation. This week Woods is coming back to the game of golf looking to close in on the Major Record of Jack Nicklaus of 18 major wins.
The King, Arnold Palmer thinks it is very questionable whether Tiger can catch Nicklaus or even pass him with 19 major wins. At 37-years-old Woods isn’t the same player mentally that he was years ago when he was winning majors according to Palmer.
Palmer went on to say Woods could win more majors but he also said, it is very questionable that he can win on golf’s biggest stages. Tiger hasn’t won a major in years. With all the distractions in his life over the past 5 years, it is a wonder he can compete in a regular tour event.
This years British Open isn’t going to be handed to Tiger. He is going to be a little rusty and guys like Mickelson are going to be on their game. This years Open Championship will see a full field with many players capable of winning.
Is Tiger one of those players? It is highly UN likely that he can come back after missing weeks of competition and win his 15th major. Tiger is going to be challenged both mentally and physically when the Open Championship starts on Thursday.
Woods doesn’t know how his elbow is going to hold up under the pressure of tournament golf. If Woods finds himself in the deep rough, he could re-injury his arm. If he does, that would be the end of his quest to win his 15th career major.
Palmer may be right. It is very questionable that Woods can win another major, especially this week.
