Heading into the Bridgestone Invitational, Tiger Woods said he love to play at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. This weeks we are seeing a Woods that closely resembles the Tiger of old. He shot a 9 under par round of 61 on Friday and it looked like he could have went lower.
Woods has a 7 stroke lead heading into the weekend and even he can blow this, or can he? Woods has played poorly in a lot of tournaments this year after the 36 hole mark. We cannot think Tiger would blow a lead at a course he really loves.
He made it look easy yesterday. He started his round with a birdie, followed by an eagle on number 2 and followed that with another birdie on the 3rd hole. He was 4 under par in his first 3 holes, by the time Tiger finished the front he was 5 under after making another birdie on the par 3 7th.
Tiger was having fun, and when Woods has fun like this the rest of the field usually suffers. Tigers good play continued on the back where he made 4 birdies in a row on holes 10 thru 13. Then his birdie train came to an end and he finished his second round by paring out the back nine.
This is his tournament and he knows it. If he posts another number over the weekend like he posted today no one will even be close to catching him. There is something about Firestone that brings out the best in Tiger’s game.
