Tiger Woods returned to action at a place he has grown to love, Firestone Country Club the site of the Bridgestone Invitational. Woods who has won there 7 times is off to a good start after posting a 4 under par round of 66 to put him in a tie for 3rd place.
Tiger started his first round on the back side of the South Course and he was off and running. Right out of the gate he made a birdie on the 10th and then he gave it back on the 11th. Tiger would make another birdie on the par 4 14th and give that one back on the par 5 16th. Tiger making a bogey on a par 5 is like a double for everyone else who plays the game.
There was a time when Woods would do nothing but attack the par 5’s in search of making a birdie or better yet an eagle. Those days of Woods tearing up the par 5’s seem to have all but disappeared. Tiger would shoot even par on the back side.
He then made the turn and started the front side with a birdie on the 1st hole. Woods would play the front side making birdies on holes, 3, 4 , and 8. He wouldn’t make a bogie on the front side and looked more like the Woods people are used to seeing at Firestone.
He is currently 2 strokes off the lead held by Webb Simpson who is 6 under par.
