Rory McIlroy managed to get through a round without quitting after 8 holes and walking off the course. His game is in complete disarray. McIlroy is still struggling to find his game and he is still struggling to find the fairways and green half the time too. Rory was paired with Woods today and he and his group started their first round off on the back nine at Doral. McIlroy got off to a fair start making pars at the first 3 holes. Then the wheels started to fall off. Rory made 2 bogies in a row before finding his first birdie at the par 3 15th.

McIlroy was only 1 over par at that point, trying to stay calm and find his groove he pared the next 2 holes and made a birdie at his ninth hole (18) to finish his first nine holes with a 2 over par 38. McIlroy turn some heads making an eagle at hole number 1 (his 10th) a par 5. He may have gotten too excited because he then made 3 bogies in a row. He gave back the 2 strokes he gain at the 1st hole in no time.

He pared holes 5 & 6 and made back to back birdies at 7 & 8. This is not the Rory McIlroy we saw on tour last season. McIlroy pared the 9th and finish his back nine with a 1 under par 35 to finish his first round at 1 over for the day. It is clear that McIlroy is struggling to fine the swing he had last season. If he were to go back to his old clubs now it would be interesting to see the results. McIlroy showed some poise in his first round after coming under fire for walking off the course last week.

If McIlroy’s struggles continue tomorrow, the youngster won’t have to worry about quitting. He won’t be around for the weekend playing this kind of golf. He will miss another cut. Someone somewhere needs to step in and help this kid. They better do it soon.
