The kid from Northern Ireland is back. Rory McIlroy played a fantastic round of golf at the Honda Classic. McIlroy recorded a 63 and put himself in first place after round one.

He made 7 birdies and no bogeys in his first round. It is great to see McIlroy able to get back into the form we saw during the 2012 season. If he can continue to play this kind of golf, he could be a force to deal with this season on the PGA tour.

You may remember once he signed a new club deal and started last season with different sticks in his hands, he struggled. Once he even walked off the course and quit.

This is the turn around McIlroy needs. You can see he has the confidence back in his swing and when he is confident, he plays great golf.

Leading by one stroke going into round 2 isn’t that big of a lead. But if he comes out and plays like he did in his first round, he will be something to deal with this weekend.

He will start his second round at 7:25 AM and we will soon see if McIlroy can carry the momentum into the second round. If he does, he could post another low number and this would be trouble for the others.
