The New York Yankees controlled the American League East for much of the season. Now when it matters the most they are in a fight for survival with the Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees have one more game in the series against the Orioles and if they win they could come out of this war with a one game lead, if they lose they come out a game behind. This series looks like a play-off in September, both teams trying to win the series and take over the top spot.

The Yankees fell to the Orioles by one run, they lost 5-4 and if they didn’t mount a come back in the 8th and 9th inning it wouldn’t have been that close. The Yankees started CC Sabathia who couldn’t seem to find his stuff, he pitched for 6-1/3 innings and gave up 8 hits and five runs. 3 of those runs were home runs. The Orioles had CC Sabathia’s number in the game taking a 5-2 lead over the Yankees by the end of the sixth inning.

New York was faced with trying to mount a come back. The team knew first place was at stake and couldn’t get the job done. Alex Rodriguez hit a home run in the 8th and Nick Swisher drove in a run in the 9th. The team lost and now remained deadlocked for the top spot. We will see what happens today…..
