The Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles today 4-3 to stay in first place in the American League East by 3 games. Yankees starting pitcher David Phelps didn’t have the kind of day the Yankees were looking for but the men in pin stripes got the win and that is what matters most. Phelps pitched for 4-2/3′s and only gave up 3 hits and 3 runs, he was having major command problems and walked 6 while only striking out 3 and he gave up 1 home run.

The Yankees are holding onto to a 3 game lead over the Orioles for fist place and don’t need to lose game to them to letting them close the gap. The Yankees have one more game to play against the Orioles then it is off to Tampa Bay to take on the Rays, then it is back to face Baltimore in their home field for a 4 game set. Things can get real interesting in the race for the A.L. East rather quickly if the Yankees aren’t careful….
