The New York Giants are adding guys to their defense. When they signed Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, to a five-year deal, and paid him 39 million dollars with 15 million dollar guarantee, the team showed they are serious about the defense.
How will this help Eli Manning turn things around? Manning is coming off one of his worse seasons in the NFL. He threw a bunch of interceptions and this was not the Manning, we have grown to love over the years.
The Giants took a hard stance by not reaching out to the offensive players last season. The team found themselves trying to compete without some of the offensive weapons Manning was used to throwing the ball to.
So what does the team do this off-season? They start rebuilding their defense. Don’t get me wrong, defense helps to win championships. But if Manning doesn’t find a way to perform better this season, Cromartie won’t make a difference.
Manning has to stop turning the ball over. He knows it and so does everyone on the Giants coaching staff. Sure the team is going to have a better defense, but it is the offense that has to eliminate the mistakes.
Turn-overs killed them last season. If they can’t find a way to control the ball offensively this season, it’s going to be more of the same. Manning has to get back to the quarterback he once was. Otherwise, it is going to be another long season in New York.
