The Denver Broncos knew if they wanted to repeat their super bowl appearance, they needed to improve their defensive secondary. They did it as soon as free agency started, by signing safety TJ Ward.
Ward is one of the best safeties in the NFL. The guy has improved in each of his years in the NFL. Last season Ward really stepped up his game and he was rewarded with a pro-bowl appearance.
He is one of the hardest hitting safeties in the NFL. If you test Ward, he is going to make you pay. He is very good against the run, and his pass coverage is getting better in each game.
Ward is young and he should have a great career wearing the Broncos uniform. It’s difficult to believe the Cleveland Browns wouldn’t make a deal to keep Ward in Cleveland.
Maybe the Browns new coach Mike Pettine still holds a grudge against Ward, for his pick 6 against the Buffalo Bills last season. Ward helped Cleveland seal the deal against the Bills on National TV last season.
In coming to Denver TJ Ward will be reunited with Tom Heckert the former Browns GM, who drafted him into the NFL. Heckert has an eye for talent and so does John Elway.
It’s a long over due move by Elway. He should have started to rebuild the Broncos defensive secondary last season. The Broncos have been week in the secondary for a couple of seasons and with the addition of Ward, the Broncos will have a guy who can and will make big plays.
