The Cincinnati Reds are in a battle to take the N.L. East with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Reds have a one game lead over the Pirates and are on a two game win streak. Today the Reds take on the Giants who they have beaten two games in a row. Yesterdays game the Reds came out on top by only one run, winning 2-1. The Reds got a complete game by Mat Latos who only gave up tow hits and one run. The Cincinnati Reds have won a few games this season that were very close games.

The Reds got their first run in the fourth in yesterday’s game when Ryan Hanigan walked and the bases were loaded to take a 1-0 lead over the Giants. The Reds only other run came on the back of a Miguel Cairo single to center field in the 7th inning. If the Reds expect to take the N.L. East they are going to have to get some more offense going in the second half. It is clear the Reds offense is starting to sputter.

The Cincinnati Reds have plenty of good pitching, there is no questioning that. The problem the Reds may face coming down the stretch is being able to produce runs. The Reds offense was producing plenty of excitement earlier in the year, they just need to get the same kind of production they had earlier to get back to pulling away in the N.L.Central.
