When Phil Mickelson decided to play the Valero Texas open, there was a lot of excitement. Phil’s first round, offered little excitement, and Mickelson was less than thrilled with his first round.
If Phil can’t figure out a way to play better in round 2, he may not be around this weekend, he is in danger of missing the cut. Mickelson has struggled this season thus far.
He was using the Valero Texas Open, to tune up his game for the Masters. With the season’s first major only weeks away, Mickelson’s game is clearly in need of a tune up.
Phil couldn’t do anything well in round 1. He didn’t drive the ball very well and only hit the fairways 64.29% of the time. If that wasn’t bad enough, Phil’s putter let him down as well.
Mickelson is ranked 142nd in putting and his iron play wasn’t that great either, only hitting the greens in regulation 50% of the time in round one.
Phil is struggling this season and we have to wonder if the back strain he suffered in an earlier tournament is still bothering him. Phil opened this tournament with a 5 over par 77.
He only made 2 birdies in his first round and had 5 bogeys and 1 double bogey which came on the par 4 ninth, Phil’s last hole in his first round.
Lets hope he can find his golf swing and somehow shoot a low score in round 2.
