Phil Mickelson has played a great first round at the Phoenix Open today. Phil shot 60 in the opening round making 11 birdies and no bogies. Phil hasn’t played this well in a while. there is something about the Phoenix Open that always lights a fire under Mickelson. I remember one of his first rounds on the PGA tour took place at the Phoenix Open, it has always been a special place for Mickelson. Today that cam out in a great round that would have been a 59 had Phil not lipped out a putt to finish.

Mickelson has a 4 stroke lead over Ryan Palmer, Brandt Snedeker, Padraig Harrington and Ted Potter, Jr.. Phil went out with a 4 under 31 o the front nine and carded 7 more birdies on his back nine today. Lets hope he can follow this round with another great number tomorrow. It would be great to see Mickelson string together 4 great rounds of golf.
