Phil Dawson helped the San Francisco 49ers beat the Green Bay Packers by kicking the game winning field goal with only seconds left on the clock. When asked about what distance he was comfortable with attempting a field goal before the game started, Dawson said none.
He went on to say the ball felt like he was kicking a brick in the cold frigid temperatures. Dawson has had plenty of years kicking field goals in cold weather. Coming to the 49ers from the Cleveland Browns, Dawson has kicked plenty of field goals in the cold weather.
He attempted 3 field goals in Green Bay and he made all of them. None were as important as the game winner, but looking back at them, they all put points on the board to help the 49ers advance to the next round of the play offs.
The 49ers are lucky to have a clutch kicker like Dawson. He was one of he best field goal kickers in the NFL before he arrived in San Francisco and he hasn’t let the team down since he arrived.
Dawson is just what Jim Harbaugh ordered. He is dependable and he has done his job long enough not to choke when the pressure is on.
The 49ers will do well with Dawson as their kicker, if the game is on the line he can be counted on to help the team win. He is going to be one of the best field goal kickers of all time when his time in the NFL comes to an end.
