Ozzie Newsome, the tight end who made his claim to fame with the Cleveland Browns as one of the best Tight Ends to ever play the game, was rushed to a Chicago area hospital after the Baltimore Ravens lost to the Chicago Bears today.
The 57-year-old Newsome has no history of health problems, reports say he was coming down from his game box in an elevator and was sweating profusely.
The same reports say that Newsome then fainted in the elevator. Medical personnel called to the scene loaded Newsome into an ambulance and transported him to the hospital.
A spokesperson for the Baltimore Ravens confirmed the team’s GM was taken to the hospital and said, team doctors didn’t think Newsome should fly tonight.
Newsome could be feeling the pressure of his teams struggles. The Ravens paid Joe Flacco this season with a contract worth 120 million dollars.
The Ravens have struggled this season and the stress could be getting to Ozzie, or at least we hope that is all that is wrong with him. Newsome is one of the good guys in the NFL.
He left Cleveland when Browns owner Art Model moved the team after the 1995 season and when Newsome’s playing days came to an end he moved to the Ravens front office.
He is one of the most successful GM’s in the NFL. He is still loved in the Cleveland area and will always be remembered as one of the all time greats to ever wear a Browns uniform.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ozzie and his family for a speedy recovery and lets hope there is nothing seriously wrong with him.
