Monday athe RBC Heritage presented by Boeing, featured a 26 team pro-am tournament. The pros that played featured Bryson DeChambeau, who turned pro and played here last year as his first pro event, and finished 4th.
Bryson told me that he is so excited and pumped to play this week.
I’ll have to say that after last year he may be someone to watch out for.
Boo Weekley, the 2 time champion at Harbour Town played in the pro-am and was a fan favorite.
Boo was great with all the fans , taking photos, signing autographs, and just being Boo!
Rod Pampling was gracious and spoke with me for a bit. I asked him about his move from Australia to Hilton Head.
He chuckled and said he never got the chance to live here. He had bought a lot basically sight unseen and there was a problem with the builder and it took them forever to get out of the original deal.
I didn’t pry too much but he was smiling as he told me the story.
The one fellow I had a ball talking to was Andrew “Beef” Johnston.
He was so kind and I was asking him what he thought about coming to Hilton Head. He told me that he was so excited to have received a sponsors exemption.
He also stressed to me that this tournament meant so much to him. Of course as he started to walk away the last word from him was CHEERS!!!!
I was able to catch Chris Kirk, although he wasn’t playing in the pro-am. Chris told me that he feels great and really loves this golf course.
Chris Kirk is my pick to be really at or near the top this week.
The weather is beautiful and is 75 and sunny all week. Only chance of rain is 10% Saturday. No need to worry about cold or heavy winds like they had at the Masters Thursday and Friday last week.
There will be pretty much a full house Tuesday because there will be no pro-am and the pros can play a full round with their buddies and of course they will be playing for a couple dollars!
There will be a putting clinic for all of the kids as it is Coca-Cola Youth Day.
Enjoy and we will talk more tomorrow!
