The first round is in the books at the Barkclays and Padraig Harrington was on golfer who came out shooting today. Already Harrington put guys like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els 4 strokes back and tied for 14th place with 9 others. Harrington made Bethpage look easy today, he shot an opening round 7 under par 64. The rest of the field must think Harrington knows something they don’t. In second place are Nick Watney and Brian Harman at 6 under par.

Bethpage can be a difficult golf course. We saw that a few years back in the U.S. Open. If Harrington is still on the top of the leader-board come Sunday, he will have worked for it. Harrington made 8 birdies and only one bogey in his opening round. Tiger woods had 4 birdies and 1 bogey and Phil Mickelson made 5 birdies and 1 bogey on his way to 68 today. Out of the guys I am writing about in this article Ernie Els may have had the most interesting round, the Big Easy had 4 birdies 3 bogies and an eagle on the par five 7th.

Tomorrow should be another interesting day at Bethpage. Lets see who is on top of the leader board at the conclusion of day two…
