Anyone who ever attended the greatest two days in golf, “The Tavistock Cup”, will understand how wonderful this event actually was.
It started 10 years ago with Tiger Woods and his buddies from Isleworth CC in Orlando Florida vs Ernie Els and his cronies from Lake Nona CC in Orlando Fla.
This event allowed fans to follow players around the course with no ropes to separate them from the players. A super exclusive event where tickets were never available for sale and there were only 3000 spectators.
One of the special things about this tournament was the introductions of the players by David Feherty and Gary McCord. Hilarious always and available to be seen on YouTube.
The players were always delivered to the golf course in helicopters. No where do you see this.
Big money for the winning team and medalist! My personal favorite was the wonderful prizes on the par 3 holes everything from cars to boats to motorcycles.
Fan experiences galore. Test drive a Cadillac and get 6 Ryder Cup golf balls in a commemorative box.
This event gave the medalist the Payne Stewart award each year with Paynes widow presenting the award.
Many friendships and many memories were made in the 10 years this wonderful event lasted. It will be missed by myself and so many others.
It has been replaced by an event that has been around for years in California. And will be moved to Orlando’s Isleworth CC 12/1-12/7/2014
Hosted by the Tiger Woods foundation it is called The Humana World Challenge.
Hope everyone enjoys the event. I’ll be there but it won’t be the Tavistock Cup.
