John Lackey did exactly what he had to do to shut down the Cardinals offense and help to bring a World Series Championship back to Boston. He pitched 6-2/3’s innings giving up 9 hits and only one run.
He stuck out 5 and only walked one. Lackey didn’t make any mistakes in the game and it helped to secure the win to end the World Series in just six games.
Lackey was tremendous against a Cardinals team that knew what was on the line in this game. The Boston Red Sox gave their home town crowd something to celebrate bring the World Series crown back to Boston.
David Ortiz was named the World Series MVP. He hit .688 in the series and he was a big reason the Red Sox were in the World Series, he was unstoppable throughout the play offs and he deserves to be the MVP.
Ortiz showed great poise in the series, he was a great value to this Red Sox team and he is a hero in the Boston area after a performance like the one he has had.
The guy is a force at the plate, and he can provide a spark to the offense anytime he is at bat. He has done it for years, and the Red Sox have to be glad he is doing it for them.
Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox and manager John Farrell on winning the 2013 World Series.
