The Denver Broncos just took away one of the New England Patriots play-makers. They signed Wes Welker today to get quarterback Peyton Manning another target to throw to. The Broncos picked up a great receiver who will make an immediate impact for the Broncos.
Welker has all kinds of experience, the play-offs, super bowls you name it and Welker has done it in the NFL. Reports coming out have the Welker deal worth 12 million over 2 years. It is difficult to believe the Patriots wouldn’t pay a guy with Welker’s experience that kind of money.
He made 9.515 million on 2012 and 12 million isn’t like he is breaking the bank. Welker who has spent his last five season’s in the NFL with the Patriots quickly became one of Bardy’s favorite receivers. Last season Welker caught 118 passes in 2012 and had 1,354 yards. His 2011 season with the Patriots was a little better, catching 122 passes for 1,569 yards in 2011.
The 2012 season was Welkers second best year with the Patriots. It is surprising that Robert Kraft let his Patriots insult Welker with a low ball offer just days after he said how much he loved Welker and wanted him to stay and retire from the NFL as a Patriot.
It just goes to show you, it is difficult to believe anything team owners say. The good news for Bronco fans is, the team was able to present Welker with a deal that brought him to Denver. Welker is a play-maker and will be a huge help to Manning and the Denver Offense.
It was hard to imagine the Broncos doing better than the 13 wins Manning produced during the 2012 season. With the signing of Welker and a healthier Manning coming into the 2013 NFL season, the team just might pass that win total.
Not only that we have to remember one of Welker’s new Broncos teammates already guaranteed a super bowl win. With Welker coming to Denver, that guarantee looks a bit more realistic.
