Geno Smith was less than thrilled with the performance he put on the field during the Jets first day of rookie Mini camp. Smith looked well prepared. He looked like he knew the play book and he performed better than the grade he issued himself.

He completed 6 of 10 passes he threw in 11 on 11 drills and was sacked once. He completed 11 out of the 15 passes he threw in 7 on 7 drills, both sets of drills contained acceptable numbers for a rookie just coming into a pro offense.

This show just how hard Smith works and how hard he can be on himself. Geno Smith has faced a bunch of criticism since the NFL draft. The media were all over this kid after it was report he paid more attention to his cell phone than he did coaches during pre-draft team visits.

Yesterday was no exception. The media were all over everything he did during his first day of rookie mini camp. No one is going to be tougher than Smith when it comes to criticizing his own performance on the field.

Smith is looking for perfection and the Jets could very well be the benefactor of this hard-working rookie quarterback. He could be just what this team needs to get back to playing winning football. Smith calls himself a natural leader and we all know about his work ethic.

Maybe the media should back off of Smith just a bit and give him some room to operate.
