I don’t get it. Robbie Rogers comes out and makes the announcement that he is gay, then he says he is stepping away form the game of soccer. Don’t they allow Gay people to play soccer in this country? I am sure if we searched hard enough we couldn’t find any rules that prohibit gay people from playing soccer. This is 2013 for crying out  loud. There are gay people in all kinds of professions. Why does Rigers think because he came out and said he is gay he has to walk away form the game?

Rogers plays or should we say played for the U.S. national team. That means this guy is a great soccer player. You just don’t walk on to the U.S. national team. You have to be great at playing the game of soccer. Besides, Robbie Rogers is only 25 -years -old. He still has a lot of year that he could play soccer. Rogers said,

“Things are never what they seem. My whole life I have felt different, different from my peers, even different from my family,” He also had this to say; “I always thought I could hide this secret. Football was my escape, my purpose, my identity. Football hid my secret, gave me more joy than I could have ever imagined.”

This had to be a difficult decision for Rogers. Clearly he loved the game of soccer and I really don;t understand why he is choosing to walk away from the game unless they have a don’t ask don’t tell rule in the game of soccer. Maybe he doesn’t want to kick the balls anymore….
