Mariano Rivera, you think of him as the greatest closer of all time. The guy has lived his dream of playing in the major leagues for 19 seasons, or has he? One thing Rivera always dreamed about was being a center fielder for the New York Yankees. Now with only 3 games left in the season, rumor has it the Yankees are going to let Rivera see that dream come true.

Reports out of New York are suggesting the Yankees will play Rivera in center field Saturday night in Houston. Why not? The guy is an amazing athlete and at age 43, he probably can still run down a fly ball. There is a lot of ground to cover in Houston and it is going to be interesting to see how the greatest closer of all time can close in on a fly ball.

Ticket sales in Houston are said to be robust with the fans wanting to catch their last glimpse of Rivera, never did they think that could mean him playing in center field. If the rumors are true and they do play Rivera in center field, maybe we better hope nobody hits a ball his way.

Rivers should be remembered as the beast closer in the history of the major leagues and not as the 43-year-old who pulled his hamstring trying to chase down a fly ball in center field in his last appearance in pin stripes.

We should all tip our caps to the legendary career of Mariano Rivera.
