It looked as though Phil Mickelson was going to have a decent front nine at the Open Championship, that was before Phil decided to be Phil. Mickelson made a birdie on the second hole to go 1 under par and then followed that with a bogie on the 3rd hole. Mickelson would get back to one under before the wheels completely fell off on him when he doubled bogeyed the par five 7th hole. Mickelson would then make bogie on 8 and nine. Mickelson falling backwards isn’t going to help him catch the leader Adam Scott who posted a 6 under par round of 64 in his first round.

Phil is playing the back nine at the Open Championship and he’s hoping to make up some of those dropped shots he left out there on the first nine. If Phil expects to win the Open Championship his caddy Bones is going to have to keep him in check. This is the Open and there is lots of trouble surrounding this course.

Hey, be sure to tell us what you think Mickelson’s chances of winning an Open Championship are, just leave your replies below….

Update: Phil gets one back with a birdie on number 10
