When Geno Smith was taken by the New York Jets this year, he said he would help this team transition into winners. The Jets are now 3-2 and Smith is a key to why this team is winning football games.
If Smith can stay healthy he should be the team’s quarterback for years to come. He led the team to a win over the Atlanta Falcons and his drive was a key to why the team was able to get their 3rd win of the 2013 season.
The Jets are now in a tie for second place in the AFC East, they are only 1 game behind the Patriots and the team is finally functioning like a football team. Smith completed 16 out of the 20 passes he threw against the Falcons for 199 yards and 3 touchdowns.
He rushed for 21 yards on 3 carries. He came away from this game with a 147.7 rating and you have to wonder when the last time a Jets quarterback was rated that high. He took a beating from the Falcons defense and he got back up and continued to fight.
This kid has a lot of guts and he is already a proven leader on this New York Jets team, and they need that with Rex Ryan as their head coach. Smith is just what Ryan needed to save his job, he has had so many problems over the past few seasons, many were wondering if the team would fire Ryan after this season.
Wining changes everything and Smith is turning the Jets into winners. Now Ryan has to figure out a way to keep his young quarterback healthy. The Jets could do a better job in pass protection and Smith can help himself by learning how to read the rush better.
In his first year in the NFL, he is looking great. He is living up to his promise and he is delivering some wins to his Jets team.
