Reports had former NBA Guard, Mookie Blaylock on life support, fighting for his life after a car accident sent him to the hospital and killed another. It is not claer at this time if Blaylock was taken off life supports, but his condition is said to be still critical, but improving.
According to a family member, Blaylock has been under going treatments for seizures. It is not clear whether that condition contributed to the accident. Blaylock hasn’t been able to communicate with investigators due to the seriousness of his injuries.
Reports had Baylock traveling northbound on Tara Boulevard in Jonesboro, Georgia in an SUV when he crossed the median and crashed head-on into an oncoming van carrying two people. Monica Murphy, who was 43-yeears-old was one of the passengers in the vehicle hit by Blaylock’s SUV and she died from her injuries.
Her husband, Frankie Murphy, 41, sustained a broken ankle and was released from the hospital after undergoing treatment.
At the scene of the accident, Blaylock was unresponsive and had to be airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition. Believe it or not, Blaylock had an outstanding warrant out of Spalding County, Ga. on DUI and drug charges for failure to appeal in court.
the Atlanta Hawks organization, issued a statement concerning the accident, they said; “We are saddened to hear of the accident today involving Mookie Blaylock and the Murphy family and the ensuing passing of Monica Murphy,” “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all involved.”
Blaylock retired after 13 years in the NBA, in 2002 with 11,962 points, 5,972 assists and 2,075 steals for his career. He averaged 13.5 points and 6.2 assists. He once appeared int he NBA All-star game as a member of the Atlanta Hawks.
