Davis Love III, has been battling his way back into being competitive on the PGA Tour for a couple of years. He finally is looking the DL3 we used to know. After barely making the cut yesterday, Love III battled his way into contention at the GreenBrier Classic, in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia by shooting a 65 in his 3rd round.

Love went out early this morning, and was able to card one of his best rounds of the 2013-2013 PGA season. He has battled neck problems for years, and had surgery before the start of the 2014 season. At times he looked to be back to the form that made him so competitive earlier in his career, but he just hasn’t been able to put 4 solid rounds together.

You could see the frustration on his face in round 2, when he thought he was going to miss the cut, that was currently 1 under par. At the time he didn’t know they moved the projected cut to even par. Love took advantage of making the cut and posted a great 3rd round score of 65.

He played his entire 3rd round bogey free today. He made 5 birdies and 13 pars in round 3. This is great news for Davis, he has struggled with his putting this season and the greens at the Greenbrier, aren’t the easiest to putt. The course in set deep within the mountains in West Virginia and the way Love putted today, it showed he is on his way back.

The 5 under round of 65 put him just 4 strokes behind the leader, who hasn’t teed off yet in his 3rd round. You just never know, if DL3 can card another round like he did today, he just might make it to the top of the leader-board in round 4. Of course he may need a little help to win this thing, but those that help themselves, sometimes get all the help they need.

Currently Davis Love III, is in a tie for 16th place after moving up 53 spots today. Lets wait and see what he can shoot in round 4. It would be great if he could post a number and maybe even make it into the Open Championship.
