Charles Howell III and Ollie Schniederjans are tied top the first round leader-board at the John Deere Classic, with stellar -8 under par 63’s.

Charles had a perfect card with 8 birdies and 10 pars. Ollie’s only blemish came on the par 4 —-18th hole when he picked up his only bogey.

Charles has already qualified for next week’s British Open but Ollie hasn’t.

If I remember correctly, the highest finishing player in the top 10 who has not yet qualified for the British Open, will get the nod and be able to fly across the pond and play next week.

In a tie for third place is past champion Zach Johnson.

It’s no secret Zach has this course’s secret combination. He is a past champion and should have won twice but was beaten by Jordan Speith and has been good friends with Jordan ever since.

Rory Sabbatini is also in a tie in third place. Believe me there is nothing Rory would like more that to hope in a jet and head to the “OPEN”.

2 more are sitting at -6 and tied for third place and that’s Patrick Rodgers & Chad Campbell.

2 gentleman that may consider cutting off a pinkie to get a chance at the Open Championship. It will be a wild weekend at the TPC DEERE RUN.

Bryson DeChambeau is starting to show some of the spark he showed in 2016 when he won the US Amateur and kicked off his pro career at the RBC presented by Boeing at the beautiful HarbourTown golf links on Hilton Head Island.

He finished 4th in that tournament and was floundering for a while but, the last few weeks are making me keep an eye on him. I suggest you do too.

The ” Professor” as he is called is showing us that all he has worked for is beginning to pay off and maybe, just maybe, being a little unorthodox is not such a bad thing!

I’m very pumped bout tomorrow’s round and hope you all get to watch. Going to be fun!
