The Detroit Tigers will face the Cleveland Indians, in the 2nd game of this 3-game series tonight. For the Tigers, it will be a not so mighty Justin Verlander who has struggled as of late. The Indians will be sending the kid, Trevor Bauer to the mound.
The Indians have had their way with Verlander, over the past few seasons. Now that he is struggling to be the Verlander of old, the one who sign a contract worth a king’s ransom, we have to wonder how long he will last in Cleveland tonight.
The Tigers need another win to salvage the month pf June. So far they haven’t been playing great baseball this month. Verlander himself is trying to find his stuff. Is was strange to see Verlander struggle one night, and Max Scherzer the next.
These were 2 of Detroit’s most dominant pitchers last season. Verlander was a guy the team would go to, when they wanted a win. Not so fast this season. He is 6-7 with a 4.98 earned run average this season. You have to wonder if getting paid has let Verlander relax.
We aren’t seeing the domination he used to bring to the mound this season. You can say it happens, but it usually doesn’t happen to Verlander. The Tigers have to be hoping it doesn’t get inside his head. The last thing the Tigers need is a Verlander questioning his own abilities.
Verlander’s last 3 starts were losses. He has yet to win a game in the month of June. He has only pitched 6 innings in the last 7 days, and the result wasn’t very pretty. He gave up 12 hits and 7 runs against the Royals.
To make matters worse, in his last start before that, he gave up 8 hits and 7 runs against the White Sox. This could be one of those years for Justin Verlander. He has struggled against Cleveland in the past, and if he struggles again tonight, his head could become a problem this season.
