Bruce Gradkowski gives the Pittsburgh Steelers a hell of a lot more chance at being competitive if Roethlisberger goes down than what Charlie Batch or Byron Leftwich did. The team was pathetic in Ben’s absence last season. The team finished with an 8-8 record and was a disappointment to the entire Steelers fan base. Bringing in Gradkowski now give the team a peace of mind if they need to bring him in off the bench.

Of course the best case would be to have Ben play all the games. But lets face it, he has been pretty banged up over his career with the Steelers. Last years injury could leave a lasting effect on the aging quarterback. If he goes down this season, the team now has a guy that can get the job done.

The 30-year-old Gradkowski has thrown for 4,057 yards with 21 touchdowns and 24 interceptions in 36 career games. While he has a tendency to throw the pic, working with the Steelers could change that. He still is young enough to get better given the chance.

As far as Batch or Leftwich goes, the team would do good not to let them anywhere near the training facility this summer. It is time for a change with the Steelers and with the Gradkowski signing, we are seeing it.
