It has taken a week to get this Chase ironed out but today NASCAR has added driver Jeff Gordon to the Chase. You read this right, Jeff Gordon will be the 13th driver in the race and he will qualify for the Championship this year.
This was an unprecedented decision made by NASCAR, they said “Due to the totality of the events that were outside of Jeff Gordon’s issues, we’re going to add a 13th position to the field and Jeff Gordon will qualify for the championship this year.”
Brian France the Chairman of NASCAR said; “We believe that looking at all of it that there were too many things that altered the event and a gave an unfair disadvantage to Jeff and his team who would have qualified.
“I have the authority to do that, we are going to do that. It’s an unprecedented and extraordinary thing, but it’s also an unprecedented and extraordinary set of circumstances that unfolded in multiple different ways on Saturday night. We believe this is the right outcome to protect the integrity — which is our number one goal — of NASCAR.”
Jeff Gordon came out and said the other day, that he didn’t think NASCAR did enough in punishing MW racing. I wonder how Gordon feels now that he has been added to the Chase?
Gordon is a heck of a draw for NASCAR and they did the right thing by adding him to the Chase. It will be more exciting with the 4 time champion taking part in it.
