Angel Cabrera the 44-year-old golfer from Córdoba, Argentina, has finally won a PGA Tour event. Don’t misunderstand me, this is the first non-major event Cabrera has won. He played a fantastic final round, in the GreenBrier Classic. He shot 64 to win the event by 2 strokes.
Cabrera showed no fear, as he went off in the final group with the 36 & 54 hole leader, Billy Hurley III. Hurley started off with a birdie on the first hole and Cabrera made par. It was all Cabrera after that. He shot 3 under par 31 on the front 9, making 3 birdies and 6 pars.
Cabrera started surgically taking the GreenBrier apart on the back 9. He made par at the 10th and followed that with back to back birdies at 11 & 12. The shot of his round came at the par 4 13th when he holed out his second shot, hitting an 8 iron from 174 yards to make an eagle.
Cabrera showed a lot of guts in his final round. He gave back the eagle, by making bogies on 14 & 15. He then regained his composer and blasted a tee shot that traveled about 325 yards on the 16th. Cabrera would make par there and hit an incredible drive on the par 5 17th.
He was left with a 5 iron into the green, which he found to give himself a crack at making yet another eagle on the back nine. He missed the eagle opportunity, but was able to make the birdie to go to the 18th tee with a 2 shot lead.
Cabrera hit the green on 18 and was left with a long putt for birdie. He darn near holed the birdie putt, and was left with about 1-1/2 feet for his par. Cabrera made that and captured the GreenBrier Classic. This is his first non-major win on the PGA Tour, where he won the Masters and an US Open.
