Phil Mickelson, the man some were worried wouldn’t make it back in time to tee off at 7am this morning has just claimed the top spot on the 113th US Open golf tournament at Merion Golf Club. Mickelson is though 15 holes and is at 2 under par. He has made 3 birdies today and only one bogey.
Mickelson is finishing his first round on the front nine. He started his day off at the 11th hole and made his first birdie at the 13th before play was suspended due to inclement weather. Play was halted for a few hours and the rest could have done Mickelson well.
He traveled back to San Diego last night to attend his oldest daughters 8th grade graduation ceremony. Phil made another birdie on hole number one and then another on the 7th hole. With 3 holes left to go in his opening round it looks like the Mickelson people wanted to see is back.
The jet lag doesn’t seem to be affecting his game at all. It will be interesting to see if Phil can finish his first round as the leader. Phil’ only bogey came on the 11th his first hole of the round..
