Davis Love III, is trying to make a come back after under-going surgery to repair a neck injury he has suffered with for years. Love wants more than anything to win at least one more time on the PGA tour so he can get another invite back to the Masters.
He has struggled this season, and some would tell you he is still having some minor issues with he neck. Love, like Peyton Manning is trying to do everything possible to get back to top form. He once was one of the best players on tour, and this neck injury probably took more than a few wins away from him.
He will be playing on the weekend at Quail Hollow and he knows what it takes to win there. The problem is, he is already 8 shots back of the leaders, so in Love’s case it is going to take a lot of solid playing to get into the hunt come Sunday.
He might have already won the battle this week. Making the cut after he posted a first round of 3 over par 75, has to feel good to him.
In his second round, there was no surrender in his game. He came out to carry out the task of playing good golf, and he got the job done. Love III, posted a second round of 4 under par 68 to make the cut by just 2 strokes. He came out playing in the second round and made, 5 birdies and only one bogey.
Davis pared 7 holes on the front side and made birdies at holes 6 & 7 to go out at 34. He then continued to play a solid round of golf on the back side. He made birdies at holes, 11-16 and 17 and his only blemish came at the par 5 15th where he made his only bogey on the day.
Making bogey at a par five had to burn Love III up. That is like giving away 2 strokes for a player of his abilities. The nice thing is, he kept a level head and went on to finish strong. Lets hope Davis Love III can continue to play well over the weekend.
Nothing would be finer that seeing him make a return trip back to Augusta.
