Jim Harbaugh is taking his 49ers to a place they haven’t been in a while, Harbaugh is taking them to the Super Bowl. So what does Harbaugh do? He picks up his phone and calls a guy who knows a thing or two about winning the big game, John Madden. Madden’s only Super Bowl win came when he was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders way back in 1976 winning Super Bowl XI. I wonder if Madden remembers how he won the big game? Harbaugh reached out to a great head coach in contacting Madden. He left the NFL with a record of 103-32-7 in the regular season and a 9-7 playoff record. Madden was one of the greats and Harbaugh gave him the respect he is due by reaching out to him.

The call between the two great coaches went like this;

“I just know the team that complains the most usually loses,” Madden told him. “The other thing I know is you haven’t done anything yet. The team that celebrates having gotten there the most usually loses a little focus.”

Harbaugh shared those clues with the 49ers after Friday morning’s practice, especially the part about complaints.

“I thought it was really good insight, something I’ve never heard before,” Harbaugh told the media. “Some people could say, ‘What’s there to complain about? You’re in the Super Bowl.’ I know where he’s coming from.”

It is something Jim Harbaugh should never forget and he shared Madden’s thoughts with his 49ers team after practice on Friday afternoon. Just imagine if the 49ers can take care of business in Super Bowl 47. Jim Harbaugh will jump into the arena of elite NFL head coaches.  To take his San Fransisco 49ers team into the Super Bowl in only his second year as the teams head coach is a great accomplishment. Harbaugh could very well be on his way to becoming the next John Madden in the Bay Area. Only time will tell, he is off to a great start.
